Marcello Strati

Hello friends, my name is Marcello Strati and I'm a customs officer (lance corporal) in Como, actually at the mountain pass of Malsianico, in Administration for about 23 years (enrollment 1986). My greatest passions are travel, reading and organizing events at home with friends. Convinced of being the only gay in uniform, I then discovered thanks to the Internet that I'm actually in good company. From the first timid showing on Yahoo Groups to Polis Aperta. Thinking just a few years ago that we would have created an association targeted to gay and lesbian members of Police Force, would have been just science fiction. In my barracks I've been clear as the daylight about my sexual orientation from several years and the decision to "come out" was the most important of my life. It was like I were reborn. My colleagues know who I am and never, I say never, there have been problems about myself. The respect that I had gained over the years has remained intact, indeed I think it's now even stronger. I started to come out at first with colleagues with whom I had a real friendship, then I stopped to talk and I've started to behave without hiding anything of my personality, and that was the best choice: to convey our homosexuality for what it is, that is something completely normal and I think  in my own small way to have been successful. The decision about one's own coming out is a very  private choice and should be done only when you feel relaxed about it, otherwise you just risk to  hurt yourself worse. I am proud of what I am: gay ...and customs officer.
